School Aims

St. Edmund's C of E Primary and Nursery School -

A journey to discover life in all its fullness.

Here at St. Edmund’s C of E Primary and Nursery School, our children are our absolute priority and are firmly at the centre of every action and decision we make.

"Leaders are ambitious for every pupil. They want pupils to leave the school with the skills and attributes they need to succeed in life." Source - Ofsted Report 2021

We aim to deliver high quality teaching and learning whilst at the same time providing rich and truly enjoyable learning experiences for our community of children.  Everything we do as a school is to ensure that the children achieve their very best, in school and in life. We are deeply aware that children only get one chance at their primary education and it is our job to ensure that they all reach for the highest levels of personal achievement and development.

We want every child to be successful; to reach for success from the very first day they join us and throughout their school lives so that when they leave us, they have a love of learning for the rest of their lives.

We aim to enable all young people to understand and value others, appreciate diversity and develop the skills to analyse and debate issues.  We believe that this plays an important role in helping young people to become insightful and more resilient.  We aim to facilitate a happy, safe school where laughter, enjoyment and fun is of paramount importance, for everyone!

We aim:

  • To develop confidence, independence and high self-esteem; respecting ourselves, each other and the environment by living our Christian values.
  • To develop lively enquiring minds, a spirit of curiosity, creativity and resourcefulness.
  • to create a warm, caring and calm atmosphere of belonging in the school that positively promotes learning and a sense of community.
  • to facilitate an environment of infectious positivity and happiness.
  • to have regard and respect for the experiences, knowledge and cultural diversity that every child brings to school.
  • To become well balanced individuals, spiritually, emotionally and socially by developing a strong partnership with parents, the Church and our community.
  • to provide a supportive culture in which all staff are encouraged to extend, develop and share their expertise.
  • to provide a curriculum based on the National Curriculum and Foundation Stage Curriculum that is broad, balanced, relevant, progressive and appropriately differentiated.
  • to offer all children equal access to the curriculum and school life in the community where individual differences are appreciated, celebrated, understood and accepted.
  • to encourage children to become good citizens, by developing caring attitudes and respect towards themselves, other children, adults, their school and their community.
  • to encourage each individual to take responsibility for his/her behaviour and to act as a good role model to others.

Our ethos is facilitated by a dedicated staff team, who use a positive approach with all pupils. This is enhanced by teaching a clear programme of Christian and British Values, alongside the development of SEAL, RE and PSHE/Citizenship.
