RE in Action

At St. Edmund’s CofE Primary & Nursery School, Religious Education is far more than learning about different religions. It is an exciting journey of discovery that helps every child explore life’s biggest questions, understand the beliefs of others and develop their own informed worldview.

Rooted in our Christian vision of ”…a journey to discover life in all its fullness” (John 10:10), our RE curriculum inspires children to think deeply, ask thoughtful questions and engage respectfully with a rich diversity of religious and non-religious worldviews. As a Church of England school, Christianity is at the heart of our curriculum, providing pupils with a secure understanding of the Christian faith while encouraging curiosity about the beliefs, traditions and lived experiences of others.

Our lessons are built around the St. Eddies Worldview Explorers, giving every child the opportunity to explore learning through four unique lenses:

🟦 Theo – Theology helps us explore what people believe and why.

🟪 Livvy – Human & Social Sciences helps us discover how beliefs shape people’s lives, communities and cultures.

🟩 Sophie – Philosophy encourages us to ask big questions, think critically and consider different perspectives.

🟨 Eddie – Flourishing helps us reflect on how our learning can shape the way we live, treat others and contribute positively to the world around us.

Children learn through enquiry, discussion, debate, storytelling, reflection, visits to places of worship, encounters with people of faith and the exploration of artefacts, artwork and sacred texts. They are encouraged to use ambitious vocabulary, justify their ideas with evidence and listen respectfully to the views of others.

Religious Education makes a significant contribution to pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. It promotes our Sixcess Values of Respect, Responsibility, Compassion, Perseverance, Truth & Trust, and Justice & Forgiveness, enabling children to become compassionate, courageous and respectful members of society.

Through Religious Education, our pupils develop the confidence to ask challenging questions, appreciate diversity, recognise the dignity of every individual and become courageous advocates who seek fairness, justice and hope within their communities. Every lesson helps our children take another step on their journey to discover life in all its fullness.
