Inspired by Jesus, the Good Shepherd (John 10:10), we are a welcoming Christian community where every person is known, valued and loved. Together, we nurture wisdom, hope, dignity and community, remove barriers to learning and belonging, and enable every child and adult to flourish as they journey to discover life in all its fullness.
Our Christian vision is the foundation of everything we do. It shapes our leadership, curriculum, relationships, worship and decision-making, inspiring us to create a community where every individual is encouraged to discover and fulfil their God-given potential.
As a Church of England school, we believe education is about far more than academic achievement. It is about developing the whole person – academically, spiritually, emotionally, socially and physically – so that every child leaves St. Edmund’s equipped to make a positive difference in the world.
Our vision begins with the story found in John Chapters 9 and 10.
Jesus meets a man who has been blind since birth. While others see only his difficulties and judge him because of his circumstances, Jesus sees his dignity, worth and potential. Jesus heals the man, restoring not only his sight but also his place within the community.
Rather than celebrating this miracle, the religious leaders reject and exclude the man because he believes in Jesus.
Yet Jesus does not abandon him.
Instead, Jesus seeks him out, welcomes him and reminds him that he belongs.
Immediately afterwards, Jesus explains why He acted in this way.
He describes Himself as the Good Shepherd.
Unlike leaders who seek power or exclude others, the Good Shepherd knows every sheep by name, protects them, guides them with love and leads them towards abundant life.
Jesus then makes this remarkable promise:
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)
This promise lies at the heart of St. Edmund’s.

Strong relationships, kindness, compassion and service are at the heart of our school community. Together we learn how to care for one another and make a positive difference in the wider world.
Every person is created in the image of God and therefore deserves to be treated with dignity, love and respect.
We celebrate individuality, remove barriers to learning and ensure every child feels valued and included.
“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” (Matthew 7:12)
Respect means recognising the dignity and worth of every person.
We demonstrate respect by listening to others, celebrating differences, treating everyone fairly and caring for God’s world.
“Be kind and compassionate to one another.” (Ephesians 4:32)
Compassion reminds us to care for others with kindness, empathy and generosity.
We seek to notice those who need support and respond with love, encouragement and understanding.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” (Colossians 3:23–24)
Responsibility encourages us to make positive choices, take pride in our learning and contribute positively to our community.
We strive to give our very best in everything we do.
“I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13)
Perseverance helps us embrace challenge with courage and determination.
We understand that mistakes help us learn and that resilience enables us to grow.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5–6)
Truth and trust help us build honest, respectful and dependable relationships.
We strive to act with integrity, tell the truth and place our trust in God as we journey through life.
“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” (Luke 6:37)
Justice and forgiveness encourage us to seek fairness, restore relationships and offer grace to others.
We believe everyone deserves compassion, understanding and the opportunity to make a fresh start.
