British Values

Preparing Children to Flourish in Modern Britain

At St. Edmund’s CofE Primary & Nursery School, we believe every child is on ”…a journey to discover life in all its fullness” (John 10:10).

Our Christian vision inspires us to nurture children who are compassionate, courageous and confident individuals who make a positive difference to the world around them. British Values are not taught as a separate subject; they are woven through our curriculum, collective worship, daily relationships and wider school life.

Alongside our Sixcess Values, British Values help our children become respectful citizens who understand their rights, value diversity and contribute positively to their local community and modern Britain.

Our Vision in Action

Our Sixcess Values provide the foundations for living well together.

British Value

How we live this at St. Edmund’s

DemocracyWe listen to every voice through our School Parliament, pupil leadership teams, classroom discussions and opportunities for children to influence school improvement.
Rule of LawWe help children understand that rules exist to keep everyone safe and help everyone flourish. Through restorative approaches, clear expectations and positive relationships, children learn responsibility, fairness and accountability.
Individual LibertyWe encourage every child to become the very best version of themselves. Children are supported to make positive choices, develop independence, take appropriate risks in learning and use their voices with confidence.
Mutual RespectRespect is one of our Sixcess Values. We celebrate everyone’s uniqueness, value different opinions and teach children to treat others with kindness, dignity and compassion.
Tolerance and UnderstandingAs a Church of England school, we celebrate diversity and welcome people of all faiths, beliefs and backgrounds. Through Religious Education, Picture News, collective worship and our wider curriculum, children learn to appreciate different cultures while recognising the values we all share.

Flourishing Together

At St. Edmund’s, we believe that preparing children for life in modern Britain means far more than teaching a list of values.

It means helping every child to flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually; developing the knowledge, character and confidence to make wise choices, show compassion, respect others and become active citizens who positively shape the world around them.

As our vision reminds us:

”…I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
John 10:10
