Living Our Christian Vision Every Day
At St. Edmund’s Church of England Primary and Nursery School, our Christian vision is ”…a journey to discover life in all its fullness” (John 10:10).
Jesus describes Himself as the Good Shepherd – someone who knows each person by name, guides them with love and helps them flourish. Inspired by His example, we want every child to grow not only in knowledge and understanding, but also in character.
Our Sixcess Values are the qualities that help us live out our Christian vision every day. They shape our relationships, guide our choices and help us become the people God created us to be.
These values are woven through every aspect of school life – from our classrooms and collective worship to playtimes, school visits and the way we care for one another.
“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” (Matthew 7:12)
Respect begins with recognising the dignity and worth of every person.
At St. Edmund’s we show respect by:
- treating everyone with kindness and courtesy;
- listening carefully to others;
- celebrating our differences;
- looking after our school and God’s world;
- creating a community where everyone feels safe, valued and included.
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32)
Jesus showed compassion to everyone He met.
We follow His example by:
- showing kindness and empathy;
- caring for those who need support;
- welcoming everyone;
- encouraging others;
- making sure no one feels alone.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” (Colossians 3:23–24)
We encourage every child to take responsibility for their learning, their behaviour and their actions.
We show responsibility by:
- always trying our best;
- making positive choices;
- taking pride in our work;
- helping others;
- serving our school and wider community.
“I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13)
Learning is a journey.
We know challenges help us grow.
We demonstrate perseverance by:
- never giving up;
- learning from mistakes;
- embracing challenge;
- believing in ourselves;
- showing resilience when things become difficult.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5–6)
Truth and trust are the foundation of strong relationships.
At St. Edmund’s we:
- tell the truth;
- act honestly;
- keep our promises;
- build trust through our words and actions;
- trust God to guide us on our journey.
“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” (Luke 6:37)
We believe everyone deserves fairness, understanding and the opportunity to make things right.
We live this value by:
- standing up for what is right;
- including everyone;
- showing fairness and integrity;
- saying sorry when we make mistakes;
- forgiving others and restoring relationships.
Flourishing Together

Together, guided by our Christian vision and inspired by Jesus, the Good Shepherd, we journey towards life in all its fullness.
Courageous Advocacy
At St Edmund’s CofE Primary and Nursery School we encourage and support our children to be “courageous advocates”. This means they champion causes which are special and meaningful to them. These may be global issues or matters far more personal and closer to home.
We believe this develops resilience, teamwork, courage, independence and an understanding of the wider world and how they can help to make it a better place, this process helps enable our children to thrive and grow.
At St Edmund’s, we understand that life can be challenging at times and that all people, including friends, family and global citizens will face difficulties which they need help to persevere with in order to overcome them. We aim to inspire courageous advocacy and instil our Christian Values in the whole of our St Edmund’s community.
To ensure that we and our community give, inspire and flourish together, we are supportive of a range of charities in our local area, nationally and globally. Some of these include:
The Beacon Project – which provides support to the homeless, excluded and marginalized in Mansfield.
St. Edmund’s Church Food Bank – which provides emergency food and support to people locked in poverty.
